Filmmakers in the south film industry have been known to always support each other but a recent statement by Telugu star Allu Arjun’s father, Allu Arvind, created a storm on social media. Allu Arvind, who is Megastar Chiranjeevi’s brother-in-law, is a top producer in Telugu cinema and he has now stepped into Bollywood as well.
During a recent event, Allu Arvind touched upon the topic of a star’s salary and how it impacted the budget of a film. The producer stated that Kannada star Yash was not well-known in India before the success of Prashanth Neel’s KGF.
He added that a big star alone cannot deliver a success but the making of the movie was also important and a star’s salary didn’t inflate the budget.
Allu Arvind explained, “The lead actor of a movie gets only 20 to 25 per cent of the film’s budget as remuneration. So, it is not true that the budget of a film will increase because of his fees alone. On top of actors’ fees, a lot of money is spent to make the movie on a big-scale.”
Pointing out Kannada star Yash as an example, he asked, “Who was Yash before KGF? How big was he? Why did KGF become so huge? He was able to elevate the film only because of its making and grandeur. The grand scale on which it was made, made it a success. This is just one example. Whoever the hero of the movie is, it is because of the making that it attracts the audience. It is also important to give quality.”
Many of Yash’s fans who saw the video on social media were unhappy and slammed these comments. One user named Tarun, wrote, “Allu Arvind #alluarvind don’t be jealous sir you will know the level when Yash 19 Announcement will be made just wait and watch.” Others commented about nepotism in the Telugu film industry.
