After the split in NCP, the war between uncle Sharad Pawar and nephew Ajit Pawar has
intensified to take over the party. The elder Pawar has claimed in the Election Commission
that Ajit Pawar is not the national president of NCP. In fact, Ajit Pawar faction has filed a
petition in the Election Commission claiming the party’s name and election symbol. The Commission had given time till September 8 to both the groups to reply to this. Sharad
Pawar has rejected all the claims of Ajit group and termed the appointment of Ajit Pawar as
the national president as illegal.
Sharad Pawar argues that Ajit Pawar faction did not organize any national conference nor
was the Chief Returning Officer appointed for it. In such a situation, declaring oneself the
national president of the party is completely illegal. Sharad Pawar faction has said that Ajit
Pawar faction has filed such a petition in the Election Commission to avoid disqualification.
The Constitution does not allow MLAs to appoint the national president of the party. Also, it
is wrong to consider MLAs as a party. Sharad faction has also demanded action against 9
ministers and 31 MLAs of Ajit Pawar faction. Speaker Rahul Narvekar has already issued notices to Shinde and 16 MLA’s after Supreme Court verdict .
