The Supreme Court announced that it will consider a plea from the NCP, led by Sharad Pawar, on October 13. This plea requests a directive for the swift resolution of the disqualification petitions against Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and the party’s lawmakers who support him by the Maharashtra assembly speaker.
The matter came up for hearing before a panel led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, which declared it would be heard in conjunction with a separate pending petition on Shiv Sena MLAs.
Meanwhile, the NCP’s Sharad Pawar faction has decided to launch a statewide agitation against the arguments of the Ajit Pawar faction during the hearing before the Election Commission on Monday. According to party sources, Supriya Sule, Jayant Patil, and Rohit Pawar have all begun preparations for a protest to strike an emotional chord.
Ajit Pawar argued before the Election Commission that his uncle ran the Nationalist party like it was a home. He appointed several people, and then those same individuals voted to elect him as party president. He claimed this violated democratic principles and hence appointments made by him and his own election are illegal. He also asserted that the party doesn’t belong to him.
Before the commission announces its verdict, the Sharad Pawar faction wants to present its side to the people of the state. Leaders believe that a heartfelt appeal to the people would benefit Senior Pawar. Old Pawar loyalists from each district are being contacted, and the new and old combination will lead the campaign across the state.
Rohit Pawar has resolved to embark on a ‘yatra’ to highlight perceived injustices, particularly targeting the youth. This journey is expected to launch sharp criticisms against the BJP, Modi, Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar, as well as their respective administrations.
