After members of the saffron camp arrived at the Ghazipur landfill site, the largest garbage dump in the national capital, to demonstrate against the Arvind Kejriwal-led administration ahead of the upcoming civic body elections, the workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party got into a dispute.

According to news agency ANI, workers from both parties had a faceoff and they raised slogans against each other in Ghazipur. The BJP workers were protesting against the Delhi government when the AAP workers reached the site and raised slogans against the BJP. Police personnel were present at the spot.

In a video posted by ANI, BJP workers can be seen shouting anti-Delhi government slogans and holding signs that read “have shame Kejriwal” as local police attempt to appease the demonstrators. Workers from the AAP, who were also on the scene, screamed anti-BJP chants.

As he arrived to the Ghazipur landfill, Kejriwal criticised the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which is governed by the BJP, for failing to handle the rubbish during the previous 15 years.

“The BJP sitting in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for the last 15, has spread garbage everywhere in Delhi, today I have come to see their Ghazipur garbage mountain,” he tweeted.

He also challenged the “top leaders” of the BJP to show one development work by them. “Why are you so ashamed to show your mountains of garbage? Delhi government is not ashamed to show its schools and hospitals,” Kejriwal said at the Ghazipur site.

At the end of 2022 or early in 2023, the MCD elections are anticipated to take place. There hasn’t, however, been a formal announcement of the dates.

The BJP won 181 wards of the former south, north, and east Delhi municipal corporations in 2017’s local body elections, sweeping the opposition. This year, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was formed by the Centre following the unification of the three municipal corporations.
