The Mumbai police have successfully intervened to save a 28-year-old man from a life-threatening situation after the Interpol alerted them to his internet searches related to suicide. The individual, originally from Rajasthan, was located and rescued in suburban Malvani, following a precise tracing of his mobile number provided by Interpol. Interpol, renowned for its global police collaboration and crime control efforts, played a crucial role in this operation.
“The rescue operation was conducted by the Unit-11 of the Mumbai police’s crime branch based on the information given by the Interpol on Tuesday afternoon,” the police official said.
“The victim, a resident of Malvani in Malad west is a native of Rajasthan. During the probe, the police found that he was under pressure as he was not able to secure the release of his mother from jail in Mumbai since her arrest in a criminal case two years ago,” he said.
The man earlier stayed in Mira Road locality (in neighbouring Thane district) with his relatives before shifting to Malvani, a western suburb, he said.
“He has been jobless since the last six months. Since he was not able to secure the release of his mother from a jail, he was under depression. As the thoughts of ending life came to his mind, he started an online search to find ways to commit suicide,” the official said. The man had previously lived with relatives in the Mira Road locality, situated in the neighboring Thane district, before relocating to Malvani, a western suburb. His mental health had deteriorated over the past six months due to unemployment and the unresolved situation with his mother’s imprisonment.
As a result, he began searching online for methods of ending his life, specifically using phrases like ‘Suicide best way’ on Google. These search patterns raised alarm at Interpol, prompting them to contact the Mumbai police. Interpol provided the Mumbai police with the individual’s mobile phone number, allowing them to track his location to Malvani.
Acting swiftly, the police arrived at the scene, took the distressed man into custody, and provided him with counseling.
After receiving professional guidance and support, the individual was encouraged to seek solace with his relatives in the city.
