In the country, Mumbai has been one of the worst-hit cities by the novel coronavirus. As Covid-19 cases pile up, the areas of Andheri east and west emerge as new hotspots with around 400 cases every day. The sharp rise of positive cases from this area has drawn attention from the authorities as the upward curve has overtaken that of Dharavi.

Dharavi, Asia’s biggest slum cluster with nearly a million people living with poor sanitation in a 2.5 km area, was the cause of a global concern. However, authorities have managed to contain the spread with proactive measures and effective groundwork. But the situation in the city has not improved as the latest data released by the BMC reveals that Mumbai’s suburban areas have witnessed an alarming rise of Covid-19 cases.

As per the latest figures, K east has the highest number of cases in Mumbai with 4,130 patients; K east comprises of Marol, Sakinaka, Vile Parle east and Andheri east.

Whereas North Ward which covers Dharavi, Worli, Shivaji park area has 3,917 confirmed cases. L Ward which has Kurla, Kandivali , Nehru Nagar area has 35,19 cases, whereas West Ward which comprises Juhu, Andheri west, Versova, Yari road, Jogeshwari has 3,380 cases. E Ward which covers Nagapada, Dongri has 3,290 cases. The total cases in Mumbai cases have increased to 59,201 with 29,033 active cases and 27,181 patients discharged.
