After A Lull, Political Leaders Active Again Days Before Result

Politicians busy vising astrologers, temples; holding meets at party offices amid prediction of hung mandate.

Ahead of the announcement of Assembly election result on March 10, Punjab politicians are consulting astrologers, some are conducting secret meetings while others are visiting pilgrimages.

Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu attended a party meeting on Monday at the PPCC office to launch a membership drive across the state. “The membership drive will reach each and every nook of Punjab. It will strengthen the party in the coming time in a novel way,” said the PPCC president.

Manik Rao Thakre, Pradesh Returning Office Punjab; and Jatinder Kocher, Assistant Pradesh Returning Officer Punjab exuded confidence that Punjab will come out with the maximum number of enrolments.

Those who attended the meeting were Kuljit Singh Nagra, working president PPCC; Pawan Goyal, working president PPCC; Pargat Singh, general secretary I/c PPCC; Yoginder Pal Dhingra, general secretary organisation PPCC; Gurmukh Singh, organizing secretary PPCC; Gurinder Pal Singh Billa, chairman OBC Dept; Nirmal Kaira, chief organiser Punjab Congress Sewa Dal; and Nirmal Singh, chairman Kisan & Khet Mazdorr Dept.

A famous astrologer of Chandigarh told The Daily Guardian that some Congress’ top leaders are seeking from him a remedial astrological way in order to overcome the hurdles that they have been facing.

A few days ago, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was seen feeding cows in a gaushala and paying obeisance at Ma BaglaMukhi Mata Mandir. Other ministers like Sukhbir Singh Badal too visited religious places after elections.

Punjab witnessed a multi-cornered contest with Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shiromani Akali Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance, and the coalition of Bharatiya Janata Party-former chief minister Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress party as key players. According to city astrologers and political experts, it would be hung mandate in Punjab.
