Nitin Yadav, Advisor to the Administrator of UT Chandigarh, chaired the annual meeting of the UID Implementation Committee (UIDIC). During the meeting, he directed all Registrars associated with UIDAI to expand their facilities for Aadhaar enrolment or updation.

Nitin Yadav emphasised giving priority to the Mandatory Biometric Update of children who have reached the ages of 5 and 15. Additionally, he urged the Registrars to create awareness among residents to update their Aadhaar if they haven’t done so in the last 10 years.

The meeting was attended by Smt. Bhawna Garg, Deputy Director-General, and Jagdish Kumar, Director from UIDAI Regional Office Chandigarh. Senior officers from UT Administration, including Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade (Finance Secretary), Ajay Chagti (Health Secretary), Hargunjit Kaur (Special Secretary – Finance), Vinay Pratap Singh (Deputy Commissioner), among others, were also present.

The UIDIC, constituted as per UIDAI guidelines, oversees Aadhaar progress in each State/UT. While reviewing progress, the Chairperson directed concerned departments to create awareness about recent UIDAI initiatives strengthening Aadhaar by updating Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents.

This feature is accessible online through the ‘my Aadhaar’ portal or at all Aadhaar enrolment centers. Residents are required to pay only Rs 50 for updating Aadhaar at enrolment centers. However, the fee for online updation has been waived off until March 14, 2024.

Bhawna Garg, Deputy Director-General UIDAI, recommended residents update their email IDs in Aadhaar for receiving updates. This not only prevents Aadhaar misuse but also maintains a record of its usage. She appealed to parents to enroll their children for Aadhaar if they haven’t already and emphasised updating the biometrics of children aged 5 and 15 at nearby Aadhaar Enrollment Centers.

Furthermore, the Advisor directed District Administration officers to prepare a detailed field verification report for Aadhaar enrollment of the 18+ population, ensuring no resident is deprived of Aadhaar enrollment without valid reasons.
