The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, organisers of the biennial Prince of Poets competition, has announced that the final 20 poets advancing to the live episodes will be revealed on Tuesday, December 5, 2024. Held at the Al Raha Beach Theatre, this prestigious event continues to spotlight exceptional poetic talent worldwide.
For its 11th season, the Prince of Poets programme attracted over 1,000 submissions from 33 countries, the most diverse pool in its history. After rigorous evaluation, 150 poets were shortlisted and invited to meet the jury in Abu Dhabi from October 28–30, 2024. The committee meticulously narrowed the contestants to the final 20 who will compete in live episodes scheduled for December 2024.
This year’s competition highlights a significant milestone with submissions from 14 non-Arab countries, including nations like India, the US, Senegal, and Nigeria. The expanding geographic representation demonstrates the competition’s role in promoting Arabic poetry on an international level.
In its 10th season, the Prince of Poets made history when a female poet claimed the title for the first time. Since its inception, the programme has showcased 245 poets from 25 countries, with women making up 24% of the total participants, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and diverse representation.
Recognised as one of the largest poetry platforms in the Arab world, the Prince of Poets competition nurtures and celebrates poetic talent. Over a decade, it has transformed into a global phenomenon, inspiring participants from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds to embrace the art of Arabic verse.
As the final 20 poets prepare for their live performances, the world eagerly awaits a celebration of poetic brilliance at the Al Raha Beach Theatre.
