The Sion police have made significant progress in the investigation of the female foetus found in a dustbin at Lokmanya Tilak Hospital on Friday. Fresh leads from CCTV footage analysis are expected to help identify and apprehend the person responsible for abandoning the foetus. An offense under IPC section 317 (exposure and abandonment of infants) has been registered against an unidentified woman.
Post-mortem on the foetus was conducted by doctors on Saturday, with their opinion reserved pending chemical analysis reports. The foetus, discovered by a sanitation worker in a black plastic bag, triggered immediate action by hospital authorities and subsequent notification of the Sion police station. Initial findings suggest that doctors declared the newborn dead upon examination, prompting the police involvement.
