Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers praised Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer, describing his performance as “absolutely incredible” in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
During IPL 2024, Iyer participated in 12 matches in the 17th season, scoring 287 runs at a strike rate of 135.38. He also achieved the milestone of being the first KKR skipper to lead the team to the top of the IPL points table.
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, De Villiers commended Iyer’s cricketing intelligence, labeling him a “wise guy” and a “smart cricketer.” He particularly praised Iyer for maintaining composure and not panicking in challenging situations.
De Villiers expressed his admiration for Iyer’s leadership qualities, highlighting his calm and composed demeanor on the field. He acknowledged the difficulties of captaining a team with seasoned players like Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, especially considering the different cultural backgrounds and personalities within the team.
KKR’s impressive performance in IPL 2024 reflects their dominance, winning 9 out of 13 matches and currently leading the standings with 19 points and a net run rate of +1.428. They suffered defeats against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 17th season.
In their upcoming fixture, KKR will face Rajasthan Royals on Sunday at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.
