In a bid to recapture the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, a stronghold of the AAP, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann convened a crucial meeting on Wednesday with AAP candidate Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and party MLAs representing assembly segments within the constituency.

The meeting, aimed at formulating a winning strategy for the upcoming parliamentary elections, saw CM Mann stressing the importance of presenting a positive agenda to the electorate. He urged AAP leaders to highlight the government’s accomplishments over the past two years and garner support based on their performance.

Sangrur Lok Sabha seat holds significant symbolic value for the AAP, having secured victories in both the 2014 and 2019 elections. However, the recent by-election saw SAD (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann clinching the seat, prompting a reevaluation of electoral tactics.

CM Bhagwant Mann, a two-time MP from Sangrur, emphasized the need for comprehensive planning to ensure history does not repeat itself. Notably, the Sangrur parliamentary constituency encompasses assembly segments represented by CM Mann and three cabinet ministers, underlining its strategic importance.

The meeting also deliberated on leveraging the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, capitalizing on the prevailing wave of sympathy towards the AAP’s national convenor in Punjab. Leaders emphasized Kejriwal’s popularity in the state and the perceived political motivations behind his arrest.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, AAP candidate Meet Hayer reiterated CM Mann’s call to highlight the government’s achievements and engage voters positively. Hayer emphasized the transformative initiatives undertaken by the AAP government, including job creation, education reforms, and welfare measures.

Echoing Hayer’s sentiments, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema underscored the AAP’s commitment to governance based on merit and performance. He condemned the BJP’s alleged discriminatory policies towards Punjab, particularly in terms of fund allocation and farmer welfare.

Meanwhile, CM Mann sought permission from the Tihar jail administration to meet Arvind Kejriwal, currently in custody following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. Mann’s gesture underscores the solidarity within the AAP leadership and the determination to navigate through the current political challenges.

As the electoral landscape evolves in Punjab, the AAP’s concerted efforts to reclaim Sangrur underscore the party’s resolve to uphold its principles and deliver on its promises to the electorate.
