The cancellation of the Employees Housing Scheme in Chandigarh has left around 4,000 employees feeling deceived. Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader, Prem Garg, criticised the BJP-led government, stating that the decision to cancel the 2008 Employees’ Housing Scheme exposes the government’s hypocrisy in claiming to support employees’ rights while undermining their aspirations.

Garg expressed concern that the cancellation shattered the dreams of thousands of employees who will now not receive the promised flats.
Approximately 4,000 employees, who have waited for their flats for the past 15 years in Chandigarh, were taken aback by the abrupt cancellation of the 2008 Employees Housing Scheme.

Garg questioned the administration’s sincerity; pointing out that if the intention was to deceive employees, why conduct a draw in 2008? Notably, the administration had conducted a draw for the scheme in 2008 and reserved land in the city.
However, 82 employees have passed away, over 800 have retired and are residing in rented houses, and others continue to wait. Employees raised their concerns with the Prime Minister’s Office to bring attention to the issue.

Garg emphasized the need for the administration to make fair decisions under the guidance of an impartial authority through mediation. This, he believes, would prevent substantial losses for the administration and ensure that employees receive the promised accommodations.
