Sanjeev Nasiar, the president of the Aam Aadmi Party’s legal cell, has been removed from his position as vice chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi by the Bar Council of India (BCI). This decision comes as the BCI conducts an inquiry into the authenticity of Nasiar’s law degree.

Nasiar holds an LLB (Hons) degree from Devi Ahilya Bai Vishwavidyalaya in Indore. In a statement released on Sunday, the BCI announced that a sub-committee had conducted a thorough investigation and found the authenticity of Nasiar’s degree to be “highly questionable.” Following this finding, the BCI’s general council resolved to adopt the committee’s report and has directed its secretary to approach the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to further investigate the matter.

“Pending the outcome of the investigation, Sanjeev Nasiar is removed from the position of vice chairman, Bar Council of Delhi,” the release stated, signed by BCI secretary Srimanto Sen. The BCI emphasized that this action was necessary to protect the integrity and dignity of the legal profession and to maintain public confidence in it.

“The BCI is committed to upholding the prestige and honor of the legal profession and remains resolute in its mission to ensure that only those who meet the highest standards of ethics and qualifications are permitted to practice law in India,” the release concluded.
