Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra provided insights into the strengths of the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, particularly highlighting their formidable top-order batting lineup. Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Chopra commended Prithvi Shaw for his aggressive approach at the top of Delhi’s batting order.
Chopra emphasized, “They have a destructive top order. Prithvi Shaw just hits. He has even hit six fours in an over. He did that against Shivam Mavi. Form – things have changed a lot from last year to this year. If David Warner wishes to hit, he does that very well. He didn’t make up his mind to do that last year.”
Additionally, the 46-year-old underscored the valuable contributions of Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant to Delhi’s batting lineup. He suggested that South African batsman Tristan Stubbs could enhance the team’s batting depth by occupying the number 5 position.
“Mitchell Marsh also drives his car in the flying gear. After that, Rishabh Pant. I have named him Rishabh ‘destructive’ Pant in any case. If I keep Tristan Stubbs at No. 5, his batting also stuns everyone. So the top five are absolutely mind-blowing,” he further remarked.
The 17th edition of the IPL is set to commence on March 22, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) facing off against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals will embark on their IPL 2024 journey with a match against the Punjab Kings in Chandigarh on Saturday.
