Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA and former Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray participated in the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP) meeting in Dubai on Wednesday. UN climate change conferences (COPs) convene annually and serve as the primary global forum for multilateral decision-making on climate change, boasting near-universal participation from countries worldwide.
“I am attending COP28 to gain insights into the latest developments in the climate sphere. I will also have the honor of speaking at multiple events, sharing my perspectives and policy initiatives from Maharashtra, where I served as the former minister for environment and climate change, as well as a legislator,” Thackeray shared on social media.
On December 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the CO Presidency’s Session on ‘Transforming Climate Finance.’ The session aimed to enhance accessibility and affordability of climate finance for developing countries.
In 2021, during his tenure as the Environment Minister, Thackeray attended COP26 in Glasgow. Maharashtra received the Inspiring Regional Leadership Award from the Under2 Coalition for Climate Action, making it the only Indian state to secure one of the three awards presented by U2 in Scotland.
