Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Worli MLA Aaditya Thackeray criticized the state government, asserting that 11 out of Mumbai’s 24 civic wards lack full-time assistant commissioners. Accusing the government of being anti-Mumbai, Thackeray questioned the delays in the appointments, emphasizing the impact on the city’s administration.
“Reminder: 11 of 24 Municipal Wards in Mumbai are without full-time Assistant Commissioners. A total of 16 Asst Commissioners await postings! Why the delay? It’s been a year that Mumbai has faced a purposeful fall in administration under the direct control of Khoke Sarkar,” Thackeray expressed on social media.
The recruitment process for 16 assistant commissioners for the BMC, conducted by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) in October 2021, faces obstacles and litigation, two years later. While the MPSC declared results in March 2022 and released a list of candidates eligible for interviews, delays ensued. Interviews took place in August, and the merit list was declared in September. However, litigation from excluded candidates has left the recommendation list entangled. An aspirant commented, “The MPSC and the BMC are responsible for this situation.”
