Umar Akmal Banned for three Years

Umar Akmal has been banned on corruption charges by Pakistan Cricket Board for three years from playing cricket. Akmal had earlier stated in an interview that he was asked to skip matches against India and told to leave two deliveries in a match by the bookies against a large
sum of money.

“I was once offered $200,000 for leaving two deliveries. I was also offered to skip matches against India,” Akmal was quoted as saying by Geo.Tv.

The PCB made the announcement on their Twitter handle via a vpost which read: “Umar Akmal handed three year ban from all cricket by chairman of disciplinary panel Justice (retd.) Faizal-e-Miran Chauhan.”

Akmal had not requested for a hearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal after he was charged for two breaches of Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in two unrelated incidents.

Article 2.4.4 reads as: “Failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Participant to engage in Corrupt Conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code”.

Reacting to Akmal’s ban, former Pakistani cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja took to Twitter and snubbed Akmal’s persistent
ill-behaviour.

“So Umar Akmal officially makes it to the list of idiots! Banned for 3 years. What a waste of a talent!” Raja wrote in a tweet before adding, It’s high time that Pakistan moved towards passing a legislativelaw against match fixing. Behind bars is where such jack a***s belong!Otherwise brave for more!!” said Ramiz Raja in the tweet
