DELHI COURT EXTENDS SUSHIL’S JUDICIAL CUSTODY; POLICE MAKE 10TH ARREST

The judicial custody of Olympic gold medallist Sushil Kumar, the main accused in the murder case of wrestler Sagar Dhankad at Chhatrasal Stadium, has been extended until 25 June by the Rohini court. After nine days in judicial custody, Sushil was brought before Metropolitan Magistrate Ritika Jain on Friday.

Sushil is accused of murder, culpable homicide that does not constitute murder, and kidnapping.

The police accused Sushil of being the prime suspect and mastermind of the murder in the court, claiming that he had substantial electronic proof of the wrestler and his friends beating Sagar.

On 23 May, the special cell of Delhi Police Crime Branch apprehended Sushil and his companion Ajay Bakkarwala, main suspects in the murder case, in Delhi’s Mundka district. Since the late-night encounter on 4 May, the two were missing. Sushil had a bounty of Rs 1 lakh, while Ajay had a payoff of Rs 50,000.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police’s Crime Branch made its 10th arrest in connection with the murder of Sagar, and the latest accused is Sushil Kumar’s aide Anirudh. Anirudh is also a wrestler by profession and confessed to thrashing Sagar and his friends on the instructions of Sushil Kumar. Ten persons have been arrested till now, including Sushil and his associates Ajay Bakkarwala, Prince, Bhupendra, Mohit, Gulab, Manjeet, Rohit Karor, Vijender alias Binder, and Anirudh.

According to police officials, Sushil Kumar and his associates allegedly kidnapped Sagar and Sonu from a flat in Delhi’s Model Town police station area on the night of 4 May, and took them to Chhatrasal Stadium. They proceeded to thrash him viciously. Sagar was seriously injured and died as a result of his injuries. On 23 May, Sushil was arrested and sentenced to nine days in judicial custody on 2 June.

The cops also obtained CCTV footage of the stadium following the event. Sushil is seen on CCTV footage assaulting Sagar and two others.
