Rahul assures nurses of Covid compensation

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday assured the nurses working as the frontline warriors against the Covid-19 pandemic that he will take up their issues with the government. Speaking to nurses in India and abroad, he said that he would write on their behalf to the government to compensate the families of the nurses who died while performing their duties.

Rahul spoke to Ragnat from New Zealand, Narendra Singh from Australia, Sherlylmol Puravady from the United Kingdom, and Vipin Krishnan from AIIMS, New Delhi. He said, “I wanted to have a conversation so we could get a sense of what different people are seeing in different parts of the world. Apart from this I also wanted to acknowledge that as an individual and as a community we understand that you are doing a dangerous job and we are with you on this. You all are putting your lives on the line for this and we appreciate this greatly.”

Vipin Krishnan from Kerala told Rahul that he has been working in AIIMS Delhi and he and his wife are fighting Covid-19. He also spoke about the pending Delhi government compensation to frontline warriors who have died of Covid-19. Rahul, while wishing him best for his recovery, assured him that he would take up the issue of pending compensation with the Delhi government.

The discussion saw Ragnat hailing New Zealand for its “hard and early response to the virus”, Narendra Singh stressing on the importance of hand hygiene, and Sheryl speaking of how despite working in an acute medical unit in Liverpool neither she nor her colleagues have caught the virus.
