Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced a three-member panel to investigate Justice Yashwant Varma over the sensational cash-at-home scandal

The committee will probe allegations after huge piles of currency were discovered at Varma’s Delhi residence outhouse during a fire incident

Panel members include Supreme Court Justice Aravind Kumar, Madras High Court Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, and Senior Advocate BV Acharya

The impeachment motion, signed by 146 MPs, was accepted by Birla under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the Constitution

The cash-at-home row erupted after a March 14 blaze revealed bundles of notes burning inside the judge’s outhouse, shocking the nation

An earlier in-house inquiry by top High Court judges had indicted Justice Varma for unaccounted cash recovery, recommending his removal

On August 7, the Supreme Court dismissed Justice Varma’s plea against the inquiry findings and impeachment recommendation

The Lok Sabha Speaker confirmed that the impeachment motion will remain pending until the three-member panel submits its findings
