Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Chile’s President Gabriel Boric Font at Hyderabad House on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal. Jaiswal shared on X that the two leaders would have in-depth discussions aimed at further strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Chile. He wrote, “PM Narendra Modi warmly receives President Gabriel Boric Font of Chile at Hyderabad House. Both leaders will have extensive discussions on expanding the strong India-Chile bilateral ties.”
Earlier in the day, President Font visited Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He also signed the visitors’ diary. On X, he posted, “Together with our delegation of ministers and parliamentarians, we paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, the memorial erected in his honor in New Delhi. His legacy reminds us that with India, we not only share common interests and a future of great opportunities for our people, but also shared fundamental values.”
Jaiswal also tweeted, “President Gabriel Boric Font of Chile pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, honoring his lasting message of peace & non-violence. A moment of reflection on the enduring legacy of the Mahatma & shared values that unite India and Chile.”
President Font, earlier in his visit, emphasized that his delegation’s purpose was to strengthen the relationship between the two nations. He said, “We’re here to strengthen and reinforce our ties, and that’s why I’m joined by government officials, the National Congress, business leaders, leaders in the fields of innovation and culture, distinguished professors, and students.”
Font described his visit to India as a “momentous occasion.” He added, “A busy schedule, I’ll keep you posted!”
President Font met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the beginning of his State visit, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to bolstering their bilateral ties.
Invited by Prime Minister Modi, President Boric’s visit from April 1-5 aims to enhance the economic, political, and cultural connections between India and Chile. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, parliamentarians, senior officials, business leaders, media representatives, and cultural figures, all focused on furthering India-Chile exchanges.
