The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared on Thursday that candidates who are not in a position to sit for the board examinations scheduled for March 15 owing to Holi festival celebrations will get a chance to appear in a special test. The exemption normally accorded for students competing at national and international sports levels shall now also cover the concerned festival-affected ones.
CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj clarified that while Holi is mostly observed on March 14 throughout India, in a few areas, celebrations spill over to March 15. On the basis of feedback received, CBSE opted to conduct the scheduled exam but provide an alternative date for the affected students.
It has been decided that students who are having problems appearing for the March 15 exam will be given an opportunity to appear for the test later, as well as students who are eligible for special exams according to CBSE’s policy for sports persons,” Bhardwaj informed PTI.
The CBSE class 10 and 12 board exams commenced on February 15, with more than 44 lakh students from 8,000 schools across India and overseas attending. Class 10 exams will continue until March 18, while the Class 12 exams finish on April 4.
For ensuring examination integrity, strict regulations have been imposed by CBSE. Normal students are to wear school attire, whereas private candidates are advised to wear light-colored clothes. Items that are not allowed include mobile phones, Bluetooth, earphones, smartwatches, cameras, other study materials, wallets, bags, goggles, and pouches. Food items and drinks are also not permitted, except in the case of diabetic students, subject to pre-approval.
This year, CBSE has provided adequate gaps between key exams to facilitate student preparation and minimize stress.
