During his two-day visit to Mauritius, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the deep-rooted ties between India and Mauritius, stating that their relationship has “no boundaries.” He reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to regional peace, security, and development.
Speaking at a banquet hosted by Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, PM Modi said:
“If there is one country in the world that has full rights over India, that is Mauritius. Our relationship has no limits, and we will keep working together for our people and regional peace.”
SAGAR Vision and India’s Commitment to Mauritius
PM Modi recalled introducing the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision during his last visit, reinforcing Mauritius’ importance as India’s maritime partner in the Indian Ocean region.
“Mauritius is an important partner in our SAGAR vision. Regional development, security, and prosperity are central to our collaboration. During India’s G20 presidency, we prioritized the Global South and invited Mauritius as our special guest,” he stated.
A Special Bond Between Two Nations
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception in Mauritius, PM Modi described the visit as more than political—it’s like meeting family. He extended his best wishes to the people of Mauritius on their National Day and lauded PM Ramgoolam for strengthening bilateral ties.
“The partnership between India and Mauritius goes beyond historical connections. It is based on trust, shared values, and a vision for a brighter future,” he said.

PM Modi reaffirmed India’s role in Mauritius’ development journey, highlighting key collaborations:
- Infrastructure projects boosting economic growth
- Skill development initiatives for workforce empowerment
- Human resource collaborations in government and private sectors
He also noted how India has stood by Mauritius in times of crisis, including natural disasters and COVID-19.
PM Modi Honored with Mauritius’ Highest Award
During the visit, Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam announced that PM Modi would be honored with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, the highest civilian award in Mauritius.
This recognition further underscores India’s strong and enduring relationship with Mauritius.
