Delhi Airport has vowed to hold an “exhaustive probe” after an incident where a Gurugram-based orthopedic surgeon had an Apple Watch stolen by two persons, one of whom is suspected to be the store employee from IGI-Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Dr. Tushar Mehta, a surgeon from Gurugram, posted details of the incident on microblogging site X. He explained that after the security checkup was over, he saw his Apple Watch missing from a tray where all of his belongings had been placed. So, he approached a CISF official and informed him about it. The official said to recheck the bag and pockets.

Dr. Mehta soon noticed a man walking away while looking directly at him. The doctor followed the individual and found him at a store, where he managed to retrieve the stolen watch. However, the would-be thief and a store worker confronted him, revealing that they appeared to know each other.

In response to the incident, the Delhi Airport authority assured Dr. Mehta that the matter was taken seriously. A message from the airport read, “Dear Dr Tushar, we sincerely regret the inconvenience caused. The theft of your Apple Watch and subsequent events are being taken seriously. We assure you that we will take this matter up strongly with all relevant parties, including CISF and the concessionaire.”

The airport also underlined that passenger safety and security remain paramount, promising a comprehensive inquiry to ensure that such events do not happen again in the future.

The CISF also contacted Dr. Mehta and requested his PNR number and contact number for further actions. Dr. Mehta ended with the post warning the travelers to be alert and to keep safe belongings after they have cleared security checks at airports.
