Around 10:00 am on January 24, an explosion took place at the Ordnance Factory in Jawahar Nagar, Bhandara, Maharashtra. As a result, at least eight people died, and seven others were severely injured. Immediately, rescue and medical teams were sent to the scene. Local authorities, including the fire department and police, are leading the rescue operations.

Rescue Operations Underway

Bhandara Collector Sanjay Kolte stated, “After the accident blast in Ordnance Factory Jawahar Nagar Bhandara, firefighters and ambulances were dispatched to the spot, and a rescue operation is underway. A roof collapsed, and it is being cleared with the help of JCB. Over 10 people are reported to be trapped, and 2 people have already been rescued.” The explosion took place in the RK Branch section of the factory. As a result, additional support has been provided to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), which strengthens their ability to carry out the rescue operations.

Chief Minister Offers Condolences and Updates

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his deep sorrow and provided updates on the situation. He said, “Reports indicate that 13 to 14 workers were trapped after the roof collapsed in an ordnance factory explosion in Bhandara district. Fortunately, five have been safely evacuated. The District Collector and Superintendent of Police are at the scene, ensuring all necessary assistance is being provided. Furthermore, SDRF and Nagpur Municipal Corporation teams have been called in for rescue operations and are expected to arrive soon. The district administration is working closely with the defense forces to coordinate these efforts. Additionally, medical assistance teams are on standby. According to preliminary information, sadly, one worker has died in this incident. I pay my heartfelt tributes to him. We share the grief of his family, and I pray to God for the swift recovery of the injured.”

Defence Minister Expresses Condolences

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his sorrow, stating, “Deeply saddened to know about the blast at Ordnance Factory at Bhandara, Maharashtra. My condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. The rescue teams are deployed at the site. Additionally, all efforts are being made to provide assistance to those who are affected.”
