European Union has cancelled plans for a leaders’ retreat on defense policy at a Belgian chateau, opting for Brussels instead due to security concerns. Originally scheduled for February 3 at Chateau de Limont, near Liège, the meeting will now take place at the Egmont Palace in Brussels, a prominent conference center.

European Council President Antonio Costa had earlier invited the EU’s 27 national leaders, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and NATO Chief Mark Rutte to the meeting at the rural venue. However, following a reassessment of security, the EU resolved to shift the event to the safer venue in the Belgian capital. The European Council confirmed the change on Thursday, citing the updated security evaluation as the reason for the switch.
