ICC Responds as BCCI Rejects ‘Pakistan’ on Team India’s Champions Trophy Kits

The BCCI is in controversy over not wanting 'Pakistan' on India's Champions Trophy kits. The ICC insists on compliance with regulations, stating all teams must feature the host's name. Failure to comply could result in strict actions.

A storm has brewed as BCCI objects to the decision by India’s Cricket board to carry the word ‘Pakistan’ on their kits as per requirements of ICC regulation. International Cricket Council recently notified all teams must feature the logo of the tournament along with the host country’s name on kits even if not the host venue of matches.

It is every team’s responsibility to print the logo of the tournament on their shirts,” an ICC official was quoted while elaborating “All teams are supposed to carry on.” It did mention that, though, action from the board can be anticipated in case of kits that won’t sport the word ‘Pakistan’.

Despite reports that the BCCI was unwilling to include Pakistan’s name, the Pakistan Cricket Board has denied receiving any such communication. The controversy follows months of tensions between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), particularly after India declined to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

A compromise was reached but hosting future ICC events may come at a cost to the BCCI. There is also confusion regarding whether Indian captain Rohit Sharma will be allowed to travel to Pakistan for a curtain-raising match featuring all the team captains.
