Donald Trump will take the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20 in Washington DC. The world is watching closely to see how he will fulfill his campaign promises. While he may not be able to achieve everything on his first day, his list of actions remains ambitious.
Promises to Fulfill on Day One
Immigration: Trump has vowed to deport all people in the U.S. illegally. Additionally, he promises to close the border and end illegal immigration.
Birthright Citizenship: Furthermore, Trump plans to end automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants.
Pardons: In a related move, Trump intends to issue pardons for those convicted or charged in the January 6 Capitol riots. He can achieve this through an executive order.
Tariffs: Moving forward, Trump promises a 25% tariff on all goods imported from Mexico and Canada. Moreover, he seeks a 10% tariff increase on Chinese imports. Both actions can be carried out through an executive order.
NATO and Ukraine: Regarding foreign policy, Trump aims to end the Russia-Ukraine war. While this is a more complex issue, he could block Ukraine’s entry into NATO.
Electric Vehicle Mandate: In another significant action, Trump plans to end the “electric vehicle mandate.” Although no such mandate currently exists, he may seek to ease fuel economy and pollution standards that promote electric vehicles.
Energy Policy: Additionally, Trump will declare a national energy emergency. This will help expedite the approval of drilling, pipelines, refineries, and power plants.
Education Funding: On the domestic front, Trump wants to cut federal funding for schools promoting critical race theory, transgender issues, and other controversial topics. He will also withhold funds from schools that enforce vaccine or mask mandates.
‘Deep State’ Reform: Lastly, Trump aims to uproot the “deep state.” His plan includes reclassifying civil servants as political appointees, making them easier to fire. This would revive his Schedule F order from 2020, which President Biden reversed upon taking office.
