Yemen’s Iran-backed Huthi rebels claimed responsibility for an attack on the USS Harry S. Truman, a U.S. aircraft carrier on Sunday. They also warned of severe consequences if any retaliation occurs during the upcoming Gaza ceasefire.
Warning to U.S. Forces
The rebels issued a statement, saying, “The Yemeni Armed Forces warn the enemy forces in the Red Sea of the consequences of any aggression against our country during the ceasefire period in Gaza.” Furthermore, they emphasized that any aggression would be met with military operations without limits.
Targeting U.S. Warships
According to the rebels, they attacked the USS Harry S. Truman and other warships using drones and cruise missiles. The statement further stated that the aircraft carrier was forced to leave the area, signaling the success of their operation.
Support for Plestinians
As part of Iran’s “axis of resistance,” the Huthis have consistently launched missile and drone attacks on Israel since the Gaza war began in October 2023. Additionally, they have targeted shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, disrupting global trade routes.
Continued Threats
On Friday, the rebels issued another warning. They declared they would continue their attacks if Israel fails to uphold the terms of the ceasefire with Hamas.
