Over 1. 78 million pilgrims and 1 million Kalpavasis attended the Mahakumbh Mela by 4 pm on Friday, based on official figures. By the fifth day of the grand festivities, more than 2. 78 million individuals had bathed in the Triveni Sangam. As of January 16, over 70 million worshippers had taken a sacred dip at the location.
At 2 pm on Friday, more than 1 million Kalpavasis and 1 million pilgrims had arrived. Meanwhile, to uphold law and order during the festival period, a prohibitory order has been implemented until February 28.
The Additional Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, declared the prohibitive orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023 (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita). The announcement specified forthcoming festivals and events, such as Mahakumbh 2025, Amrit Snan, Republic Day, among others. The ACP pointed out the communal sensitivity of the district and the potential for disruptions caused by anti-social elements.
To avert such disturbances, the statement mentioned: “In order to ensure that the festivals of various religions/sects and various competitive examinations are conducted safely and peacefully, it is necessary to stop all efforts of anti-social elements in the public interest. ”
The Maha Kumbh Mela, which commenced on January 13, will last until February 26. Significant bathing days include January 29 (Mauni Amavasya – Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
