Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has threatened to quit Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government if the cabinet passes the ceasefire agreement. “The agreed deal is reckless. It’s an abandonment of our territories,” Ben-Gvir was quoted during a press conference. “If passed, my party, Otzma Yehudit, or Jewish Strength, will withdraw its support from this government as well.”.
Despite his sharp criticism, Ben-Gvir said that his party would consider re-entry into the coalition if active warfare against Gaza recommences. Otzma Yehudit is holding six slots in Israel’s Knesset comprising 120 legislators. Even so, if his party continues departing the coalition it will not alter Netanyahu’s parliaments’ majority.
Reports say the cabinet will decide Friday on the peace deal, even though the office of the prime minister did not confirm the exact date of its vote.
