‘Cow Poop Soup’: Winter Wonder Drink or Simply Poison?

A weird and odd winter dish in the Philippines was recently brought into the limelight through social media after a tourist posted a video on Instagram. The dish, whose name might sound fancy, is actually a soup made of cow bile along with parts of the cow’s stomach and liver. The one who posted this tried the dish and described how it tasted.

Even though the name ‘papaitan’ does not sound appetizing to most, it remains a staple winter dish in the Philippines, and its preparation is relished by the locals with much pomp. The soup tastes a little bitter, but the spices infused in it make it all worthwhile. Simultaneously, a goat dung soup was being prepared, but he opted for the cow bile one.

After the video went viral, many who had tried the soup were quick to comment, with some even terming it the best winter dish. A local came in the comments to clarify that the bile used in the soup is taken from inside the cow’s stomach and not from external dung.
