Baloch Activist Exposes Disturbing Trend of Enforced Disappearances

Prominent Baloch activist Mahrang Baloch has revealed a chilling trend in Balochistan, Pakistan, where individuals who are forcibly disappeared and later released face targeted killings.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she highlighted the tragic case of Zakaria Zaheer from Gwadar. He was abducted on September 27, 2023, released due to public pressure on November 13, and later gunned down on January 11, 2024.

“Barbaric Actions Will Not Be Tolerated”

Mahrang condemned these acts, stating,

“If they cannot keep the Baloch people in dungeons, they eliminate them. Such barbaric actions will not be tolerated and will spark massive anger and backlash.”

She noted that similar cases have been reported in Turbat and other parts of the province, illustrating a systematic attempt to suppress the Baloch community.

Struggles Along the Borderline

The activist also criticized the treatment of people living near the Pakistan-Balochistan border (Durand Line), calling it inhumane. She shared a video showing police personnel beating locals and explained the dire situation faced by residents:

“Men in uniform treat people worse than animals, shattering lives, severing cultural ties, and devastating trade.”

Despite the hardships imposed by unnecessary travel restrictions, harassment, and a colonial mindset, Mahrang emphasized the resilience of the Baloch people,

“You cannot break centuries-old bonds.
