After a few months of delay, Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed 2014 science-fiction film Interstellar will hit Indian cinemas, including in IMAX format. The re-release follows its initial return to US theaters in December 2024 to celebrate its 10th anniversary. However, it had to wait due to the success of Pushpa 2: The Rule, which dominated the IMAX screens.
When Does Interstellar Re-release in India?
Warner Bros India confirmed the movie’s return to Indian cinemas on February 7, 2025. Warner Bros India posted the re-release poster on the official X handle, announcing that “The stars are aligning again! Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar returns to cinemas in India and also in IMAX on February 7. Relive the journey beyond time and space!” The post included the hashtags – Interstellar, Christopher Nolan, 10th Anniversary, Anne Hathaway, and Matthew McConaughey.

Interstellar after its reissue in the US last month reached the ninth place among the biggest IMAX release of all times by surpassing Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The movie grossed $4.5 million from 166 screens around the US and Canada. That resulted in many theaters scrambling for more showtime and some sold tickets for $300. Notably, 10 of the film’s IMAX screenings averaged $70,000 per theater, one of the highest averages of the year.
Christopher Nolan on the Re-release Success
Speaking about the overwhelming success of the 10th-anniversary re-release, Christopher Nolan shared his thoughts with the Associated Press: “I was just so gratified by the response. It’s really thrilling when people respond to your work at any point. But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens and, in particular, on those IMAX film prints? It’s really rewarding to see that it continues to have a life.”
