Former cricketer Robin Uthappa has implicitly blamed Virat Kohli for truncating Yuvraj Singh’s international career. Uthappa indicated that after Yuvraj battled cancer and rejoined the Indian team, he was refused fitness allowances that might have enabled him to keep playing. Yuvraj, who played a crucial role in India’s World Cup triumphs, encountered difficulties during Kohli’s captaincy.
In a conversation with ‘Lallantop,’ Uthappa remarked, “Consider Yuvi Pa’s situation. The man overcame cancer, and he is attempting to make a comeback to the international squad. He is the individual who secured us a World Cup, won us two World Cups for that matter, together with the other players, but played a vital role in aiding us to achieve that. ”
Uthappa clarified that Kohli, upon becoming captain, observed that Yuvraj’s lung capacity had decreased, which resulted in the refusal of fitness allowances. Despite the obstacles, Yuvraj managed to pass the fitness assessment and rejoin the team. However, following a lackluster showing in the Champions Trophy, Yuvraj was removed from the squad and not given another opportunity. “When you are captain, yes you have to uphold a certain level of standard, but there are always exceptions to the rule. Here is a man who should be considered an exception because he has not just triumphed and secured you tournaments, but he has conquered cancer. ”
Uthappa disclosed that Yuvraj had sought a two-point deduction in the fitness assessment, but it was turned down. “He passed the fitness exam, made it back to the team, had a poor tournament, removed him completely. Never considered him after that,” Uthappa mentioned, asserting that during this period, Kohli’s assertive leadership style was a pivotal element.
Uthappa additionally characterized Kohli‘s leadership as “my way or the highway,” pointing out that while other captains might exhibit similar characteristics, Kohli’s method of managing players was distinctive. “It’s not solely about results,” Uthappa stated.
Yuvraj, now 43, hung up his boots from international cricket in 2019 and concluded his final IPL season with the Mumbai Indians.
