Two local residents said intense gunfire was heard near the presidential palace in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena, on Wednesday evening. Military convoys were seen heading toward the presidential headquarters, which indicated a potential security breach.
While no statement has been issued, according to an unnamed security source quoted by AFP, armed men attacked the interior of the compound. One resident, Abbas Mahamout Seid, said he was trapped near Place de Nation, close to the presidency, as the heavy gunfire and movement of military vehicles continued.
The incident raises a question on the stability of the region, but more information is expected to be released as the situation develops.
