The 37 years old Serbian icon, Novak Djokovic remains as driven as ever to add to his illustrious tennis legacy. After a rare grand slam-less year in 2024, Novak Djokovic is preparing for a triumphant comeback at his favorite tournament. The Australian Open is all set to begin on January 13.
This 10-time Australian Open champion faces a unique challenge this year. Marking his first year without a major win since 2017, Djokovic watched the young stars Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner split the four grand slam titles after falling to Jannik Sinner in the 2024 semifinals. Despite this, Djokovic is primed for success in Melbourne, where he has achieved unparalleled dominance.
Teaming Up with Andy Murray
Andy Murray, his former rival, is a significant addition to Djokovic’s team this season. Murray’s strategic expertise and mental toughness provide a unique edge, strengthening Djokovic’s pursuit of his 25th grand slam title. This collaboration could be the key to overcoming Alcaraz and Sinner, who are more than 15 years his junior.
Records Djokovic Can Break
Djokovic is currently ranked No. 7 after focusing solely on grand slam events and has several milestones in his sights. Here is a quick look at the records which Djokovic could break in Australia this month.
A win in Melbourne would surpass Margaret Court’s record of 24 singles grand slams, achieved in her home country. With 99 men’s singles titles, Djokovic could join Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (102) as the only men to achieve the 100 club feat.
Tied with Federer at 71 hard-court singles titles and a win to Djokovic would place him in sole possession of that title. Reaching the final would make Djokovic the second man, after Federer, to achieve 100 Australian Open match wins. Djokovic currently has 184 grand slam match victories. A title in Melbourne would put him within striking distance of Federer’s record of 191.
Australian Open 2025
Despite an early exit at the Brisbane International, where Reilly Opelka defeated him, Djokovic’s track record shows he peaks during grand slam tournaments. As the Australian Open approaches and begins next week on January 13, all eyes are on the Serbian legend as he chases history once again.
