India’s fast bowler Shikha Pandey has joined the Canterbury Magicians for the ongoing Women’s Super Smash 2024-25 in New Zealand. Significantly, Shikha has become the first Indian player to feature in the Women’s Super Smash, according to reports. The tournament, which began on Thursday, will conclude on February 2, 2025. Moreover, the Canterbury Magicians, led by Laura Hughes, are set to begin their campaign against the Otago Sparks on Friday in Alexandra. In addition to Shikha, the Magicians have also signed Australia’s Madeline Penna, further bolstering their squad with international talent.
Impressive Performances in Recent Leagues
Shikha has been in excellent form lately. Recently, she represented Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), where she excelled with the ball. Over 12 matches, she picked up 12 wickets at an economy rate of under seven. Furthermore, her new-ball efforts were crucial in Brisbane Heat’s journey to the finals, where they finished as runners-up. Notably, she ended the tournament as the joint second-highest wicket-taker for her team.
