The Calcutta High Court advised the parents of the RG Kar rape-and-murder victim to seek clarification from the Supreme Court (SC) and the High Court’s division bench regarding their request for a further investigation on Tuesday. The court will hear the matter again on January 15.
Parents’ Concerns Over CBI’s Probe
The parents’ lawyer expressed doubts about the CBI’s investigation. He argued that critical evidence had “disappeared” and urged the court to order a , fresh probe “soon.” According to the lawyer, the current investigation was not thorough enough in RG Kar case.
CBI Defends Its Investigation
In response, CBI counsel Rajdeep Majumdar explained that the agency had submitted three status reports to the SC after filing the chargesheet. Furthermore, he pointed out that both the SC and the High Court division bench were already aware of several issues concerning the investigation.
Court’s Ruling and Next Steps
Considering these arguments, the court highlighted a “lack of judicial discipline” in handling the case. It instructed the parents’ lawyer to seek clarification from both the SC and the High Court before proceeding with the case’s merits. Additionally, when the lawyer mentioned that the parents sought investigation into areas not covered by the CBI, the court ordered the CBI to be included as a party to the case.
