Jennifer Lopez views life’s challenges as opportunities for personal development rather than as random events. While speaking to British Vogue, 55-year-old pop star opened about overcoming those hardships with the help of a certain mindset that made her journey through ups and downs, including divorce with her former husband Ben Affleck, a bit easier.
“For me, the key is to see challenges not as something happening to me, but happening for me,” she explained. Finding significance in situations might be difficult, according to Lopez. “Difficulties in life are disguised teaching opportunities. How can I get stronger, smarter, and more mature as a result of this?”
The actress and singer, who is renowned for her fortitude, emphasised the importance of keeping an optimistic outlook under trying circumstances. “Nothing happens by accident. It’s our job to find the lesson in the moment since everything happens for a purpose,” she said.
Lopez also addressed how she and Ben Affleck reconnected with each other in 2021 after being separated for 17 years from when they first split up. They made an effort to re-join each other, but it ended by breaking up yet again. Lopez shared some candid insight into the emotional strain their path took during her interview with Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine.
“It nearly broke me,” she admitted. “But now that I think about it, I realise that it was just what I needed. Sometimes you have to be hit hard by life in order to learn. I had to repeatedly face the same lesson before I finally understood it. I am now appreciative of such lucidity,” she added.
Lopez’s thoughts follow her August 20 filing in Los Angeles County Superior Court to dissolve her marriage to Affleck, which was the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding. Her experience is a prime example of the transformational potential of self-awareness, fortitude, and the conviction that every obstacle presents a chance for development.
