Strange! A No Electricity Village In Andhra Pradesh Remains Untouched By The 21st Century
Nowadays, it is nearly impossible to imagine a house without electricity from children to the elderly, everyone relies on electricity for daily household tasks
However, there is a village where electricity, gas, lights, fans, and motors are not used at all and the village will give you a feeling of not being in the 21st century
Kurma village, located 60 kilometers from Srikakulam city in Andhra Pradesh, is home to people who live using ancient methods
The residents of this village have no need for modern conveniences and instead live their lives in a traditional and self-sufficient manner
All the houses in Kurma village are ‘penkuttillu‘, which means constructed with lime and mud and adjacent to it is the ‘naiya‘, a traditional technique used for domestic water supply
To the right of the hall is a puja room, and next to it is the kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with all the traditional essential items needed to cook meals, such as wood-fired stoves
The floors of the houses are plastered with a mixture of mud and cow dung. This traditional practice not only strengthens the flooring but also keeps bacteria at bay
The walls of the houses are re-plastered every week using a similar mixture of cow dung and mud. Additionally, each house has a separate room for a toilet and a bathing area
Kurma village stands as an example of how people can live fulfilling lives while staying connected to their roots and maintaining harmony with nature
