North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on Tuesday to honor the memory of his late father, Kim Jong Il, and his grandfather, Kim Il Sung. The visit, reported by state media on Wednesday, marked the 13th anniversary of Kim Jong Il’s death.

Accompanied by senior party and government officials, including Premier Kim Tok Hun and Choe Ryong Hae, Kim Jong Un paid his respects by laying a floral basket in his name before the statues of his father and grandfather. He also bowed in reverence during the solemn occasion.

The Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, located in Pyongyang, serves as the final resting place for both Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung, symbolizing the dynasty’s enduring influence in North Korea.

While the anniversary of Kim Jong Il’s death was observed, North Korea has been relatively silent regarding South Korea’s political unrest, including President Yoon Suk Yeol’s brief martial law earlier this month. State media has reported on Yoon’s impeachment and related protests but has refrained from extensive commentary on the developments.
