Starc’s Early Strikes Put India on the Backfoot in Third Test

On Day 3 of the third Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia’s pace attack completely overwhelmed India. The session was interrupted by frequent rain, but Australia’s bowlers continued to shine. By Lunch, India was 22/3, trailing by 423 runs. KL Rahul was unbeaten on 13 off 24 balls.

Bumrah Removes Starc Early

India’s hope came from Jasprit Bumrah, who removed Mitchell Starc early in the session. Starc had already threatened with a powerful slog-sweep for six off Ravindra Jadeja. However, Bumrah bowled a perfect delivery, forcing Starc to edge the ball to Rishabh Pant.

Rain Disrupts Play

Despite Australia’s dominance, rain kept disrupting the game. Nathan Lyon played carefully, avoiding any risky shots. However, Mohammed Siraj broke through and bowled Lyon out, hitting the middle stump.

Australia’s Innings Ends

With just one wicket left, Alex Carey tried to attack Akash Deep but mistimed his shot. Australia was finally all out for 445.

India’s Struggles with the Bat

In response, India’s batters faced another tough challenge from Australia’s pace attack. Mitchell Starc was in top form. He quickly dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was caught by Mitchell Marsh after a loose shot. Starc struck again, sending Shubman Gill back for just 1, caught by Marsh once more.

Kohli Falls to Hazlewood

Virat Kohli, struggling with his form, edged a wide delivery from Josh Hazlewood to wicketkeeper Alex Carey. India’s innings was in deep trouble, with only KL Rahul holding on.

  • Australia: 445 all out (Travis Head 152, Steven Smith 151; Jasprit Bumrah 6-76)
  • India: 22/3 (KL Rahul 13*; Mitchell Starc 2-11)
