Sambhal’s Historic Temple Reopens, Morning Aarti Performed Today

Morning aarti was held at the Lord Shiva and Hanuman temple in Sambhal on Sunday morning. The temple had been closed for decades but reopened after 46 years. For security, police were deployed outside the temple.

Discovery During Inspection

The temple was rediscovered during a district inspection related to electricity theft. This inspection took place on Saturday. Vishnu Sharan Rastogi, Patron of the Nagar Hindu Sabha, confirmed that the temple had been closed since 1978.

Preparations for Reopening

After the discovery, the temple premises were cleaned, and electricity was restored. Additionally, CCTV cameras were installed for security. Rajiv Kumar Gupta, a devotee, shared, “I came to see the temple and performed the Pooja. This temple is around 400 years old. I had seen it on TV and WhatsApp.”

Prayer Ceremony and Caretaker Plans

Furthermore, Acharya Brahm Shukla performed the prayer ceremony. He noted, “We cleaned the temple and performed the aarti. A Brahmin should be appointed here to stay. Until then, we will take responsibility.”

Plans for Restoration

Sambhal Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vandana Mishra outlined plans to restore the temple. She stated, “The premises have been cleaned, and electricity is restored. CCTVs are being installed for security. We will restore the temple to its original structure.”

Moreover, Mishra added that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had been contacted to assist with the restoration. Police presence will remain at the temple for added security.

Ancient Well Revealed

In addition, District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya visited the site and reported that an ancient well was uncovered after a ramp was removed. “When we dismantled the ramp, the well was revealed,” he explained.

Action Against Encroachment

Finally, the temple was found during an inspection for electricity theft. Pensiya confirmed, “The temple will be handed over to the community. Action will be taken against those who encroached on it.”
