Mohammed Shami Boosts Bengal Squad For Vijay Hazare Trophy, Delays Team India Return

The Bengal cricket team announced its squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy on Saturday, December 14, featuring star pacers Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar as part of a formidable bowling lineup. The team will be captained by the young Sudip Kumar Gharami.

Shami, who has been training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, confirmed his participation in the Vijay Hazare one-day tournament. This development comes as a surprise since it was initially expected that Shami would be heading to Australia to play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for Team India. However, as of now, Shami’s inclusion in the national side appears unlikely.

Coached by Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Bengal is set to kick off their campaign against Delhi in Hyderabad on Saturday, December 21. The team is scheduled to depart from Kolkata for Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Shami has already represented Bengal in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this season. His inclusion, along with Mukesh Kumar, is expected to significantly strengthen Bengal’s bowling attack. With a balanced squad, Bengal aims to make a substantial impact in the tournament.
