Expressing solidarity with the ongoing protest by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait on Friday reached Khanauri border to meet farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal who is on fast unto death for the past 18 days.
During the visit Tikait urged all farmer unions of the country to get united saying that the country needs another 2020-21 like farmers agitation for a guaranteed MSP.
Accompanied by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) leaders, Tikait visited Dallewal and criticized the central government, calling the Prime Minister Modi led union government as a “professional government of Kalyug” and warned that the country will witness another major farmer struggle.
Tikait emphasized that the ongoing movements at Punjab’s Khanauri and Shambhu borders has the potential to force their government to accept their demands but asserted that such a movement would require unity among all farmer organizations. He stated that if the farmers’ demands are not met the national capital may witness another agitation by farmers as farmers of the country will not hesitate to reach Delhi again. Tikait urged all farmer organizations to unite under the SKM and devise new strategies for the movement.
Tikait reiterated his support for the ongoing movement at the Khanauri border and held a discussion with the farmer leaders to strengthen the agitation and assured the farmers of his unwavering support.
He criticized the central government, calling it “a government of capitalists” and accused it of being indifferent to the suffering of farmers.
“A government born out of bloodshed cannot feel pain. Only those with compassion can understand others’ agony,” he said.
Tikait urged SKM and other farmer organizations to jointly work out a plan for the movement. He also warned the agitation farmers that the central government may attempt to supress the movement and the farmers across the country must unite to make this a nationwide struggle. “We all stand together. If the government is stubborn, the farmers are also adamant”, he added. Meaning another SKM leader Darshan Pal has also urged all farmer unions of Punjab and Haryana to get united in support of Dallewal on humanitarian grounds.
He said that former the better future of farmers and farming all farmer unions should reach Khanauri border in support of Dallewal and farmer leaders should request Dallewal not to put his life at risk and request him to jointly continue this fight.
On the other hand the Supreme Court also expressed concern over Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s deteriorating health. The court directed immediate medical assistance for Dallewal and also instructed him to end his strike. The court remarked that Dallewal’s life is precious and urged protesting farmers to adopt Gandhian methods for their agitation.
It is worth noting that a day earlier, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal had written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to address 13 key demands, including the implementation of a legal guarantee for MSP.
