A tragic fire broke out at a private hospital in Chennai on Thursday night, killing six people, including a young boy. The incident occurred at City Hospital on Trichy Road, according to police and fire officials.

Victims Found in Lift

During rescue operations, firefighters discovered the victims unconscious in the hospital’s lift. Subsequently, they were rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced them dead upon arrival. Officials later confirmed that suffocation was the cause of death.

Swift Rescue Efforts

Meanwhile, firefighters managed to evacuate around 30 patients from the hospital. These individuals were immediately admitted to the district’s Government Hospital. Their prompt actions likely prevented further casualties.

Official Statement

Providing an update on the situation, Dindigul District Collector MN Poongodi stated:
“A fire broke out at a private hospital about two hours ago. The patients here have been rescued and admitted to nearby government and private hospitals.”

What Causes Fire?

Initially, investigators suspected that an electrical short circuit might have triggered the fire. Furthermore, television footage captured alarming scenes of smoke and flames engulfing the hospital. Firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.
