Kho Kho World Cup 2025: National Team Prepares With December 10 Training Camp Kickoff

As India prepares to host the Kho Kho World Cup 2025, the national team will commence its training camp at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on December 10. The month-long camp is aimed at fine-tuning preparations for the global event, scheduled to be held from January 13-19, 2025, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The announcement was made by Sudhanshu Mittal, President of the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), on Monday.

The intensive fitness and conditioning camp will be overseen by head coach Ashwani Sharma and will include approximately 60 skilled players—both seasoned athletes and promising newcomers—selected from across the country for the men’s and women’s squads. The training will emphasize lightning-fast reflexes, precise movements, and seamless coordination, which are essential at the highest levels of the sport. The camp aims to foster team cohesion and equip players with the skills needed to excel on the world stage.

Sudhanshu Mittal noted that the final squads for the World Cup will be chosen based on the players’ performance during the camp. A team of 16 coaches and support staff will assist in the training process, which will focus on fitness enhancement, technical drills, and honing chasing skills such as pole diving and tapping, as well as running techniques like dodging and zig-zag running.

Recognizing the importance of mental preparation, the KKFI has engaged a sports psychologist to provide mental health resources for players, helping them manage pressure and combat mental fatigue. Specialists in yoga, meditation, dietetics, and physiology will also contribute to optimizing player performance, team spirit, and overall health.

The camp will begin with comprehensive medical tests during the first two days to assess the players’ physical readiness. Boarding and lodging arrangements have been made at the Jawaharlal Nehru SAI hostel, conveniently located within 100 meters of the training venue. Players will receive complimentary accommodations, meals tailored to their nutritional needs—including food supplements, dry fruits, juices, and vegetarian and non-vegetarian options—and sports kits valued at ₹20,000 each.

The training camp marks a significant step in India’s efforts to secure success at the Kho Kho World Cup 2025 and showcases the KKFI’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering excellence in the sport.
