“Travis Head Abused Me, Lied”: Mohammed Siraj Opens Up On Send-Off Drama

India pacer Mohammed Siraj has spoken about the controversy that followed his heated send-off to Australia batter Travis Head during Day 2 of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval. The fiery exchange, recorded on video and extensively shared on social media, took place after Siraj bowled out Head on Saturday. Head mentioned the incident during the post-day press conference, and Siraj gave his response before Day 3.

While speaking with former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, Siraj refuted Head’s assertions regarding sportsmanship. “I was relishing the challenge of bowling to him. It was an exciting competition since he was batting exceptionally well. When a batter hits you for a six on a good delivery, it does sting. That fueled my determination. After dismissing him, I celebrated. Then he directed insults at me. You can witness it on television as well. Initially, it was my celebration; I didn’t utter a word to him. In the press conference, he made an untruthful statement. He lied. There’s no way he said well-bowled. We regard everyone. I consistently show respect to all since cricket is a gentleman’s sport. Travis Head’s conduct was inappropriate. I felt disheartened,” Siraj conveyed.

Harbhajan also shared his thoughts on his own encounters with similar situations while playing in Australia.

The situation escalated when Siraj bowled Head with a full delivery right after allowing a six, sending him back to the dressing room with a celebratory gesture. In reaction, Head turned around and responded. Later, Head acknowledged that his reaction might have been too much but still supported his actions.

“I actually jokingly remarked ‘well bowled,’ then he gestured at me in the sheds, and I also reacted. I don’t wish to dwell on it too much. It likely escalated a bit too far, and that’s why I’m let down by my response. However, I also intend to defend myself,” Head remarked.
